Meet the Team


Ros (Vet)
Ros qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 1992 and has owned Cootes since 2002. She grew up in the area and went to Chailey Secondary School. She is very proud of the 'Cootes family' we have created and of all her staff. She strives to deliver an excellent standard of care for your pets and always tries to treat your pets as she would want her own to be treated. She is the owner of a bouncy, chocolate Labrador called Lulu.


Laurel (Vet)

Laurel graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2006.  She has worked in small animal practice since then, initially in Essex before moving to East Sussex.  She has a particular interest in rabbits, small mammals and exotic pets.

She enjoys comedy, amateur dramatics, bird watching and looking after the wildlife in her garden.


Sue (Vet)

Sue qualified in 1997 and has been one of our part-time vet team since she moved from Cambridge to East Sussex in 2010.

She loves the variety and challenges of working in first opinion general practice and enjoys the happy, caring atmosphere at Cootes. She has two children and a garden to keep her busy outside work. She sadly lost her elderly Cavalier King Charles Spaniel recently.  Over the years Sue has had a range of pets but currently the family includes an escapologist hamster called Iris and three hens, Dippy, Nugget and Beryl, who have recently moved in. 


Becky (Practice Manager)

Becky joined Cootes in March 2016 taking over from Emma who has moved on to a different career path. Becky came from a domiciliary care back ground where she worked up from being a carer to being an assistant manager. She then decided to pursue her career in veterinary management with Cootes.

Becky owns a black Lab called Dray (who is 15) and a Lurcher called Tyrus who she has hand reared whilst here at Cootes


Angela (Head Veterinary Nurse)

Angela has loved animals all my life and was lucky enough to become a veterinary nurse, qualifying in 2007. Her main interests are emergency care and diagnostics. Angela is the proud mummy of two Sharpeis', two cats and a horse. She trains and competes in agility with both dogs and also trains in obedience and has passed the gold award with the kennel club with Sprout, her eldest Sharpei'.  

Angela used to compete in endurance riding with her horse at open level however these days she enjoys the slower pace of life. Angela joined the Cootes team in October 2016 and is thoroughly enjoying working here


Amanda (Registered Veterinary Nurse)

Amanda knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a veterinary nurse. She started her training once leaving school and completed her prevet nursing year 1 qualification at a practice in Burgess Hill. Amanda then moved to Cootes in 2004 and qualified as a VN in 2006.

Amanda moved away with her husband and then another little person joined their family. She has recently returned to Cootes in September 2015 and is enjoying her place settling back into a familiar role again.

Amanda enjoys the varied aspect of her job and particularly loves inpatient care


Melissa (Veterinary Nurse)

Melissa began studying animal care and husbandry in 2001 at Plumpton College, this was a First Degree in Animal Care course. This then progressed her onto the Veterinary Nurse Diploma where she continued my studies for the next few years. Mel qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2006. 

She has worked in several Veterinary Practices within the Sussex and Surrey areas and has an 8 year old little boy called Jaiden who keeps her very busy, so Melissa currently only work part time.


Sam (Receptionist and Nursing assistant)

More commonly known as Cinder's, you will usually find Sam on the reception desk. Sam have been at Cootes for over 20 years so has seen the practice grown from a quiet clinic to the thriving practice we have today.

Her main responsibilities are on the reception desk, customer care, dispensing and the buying of producs and re-stocking. Sam also advises on dietary requirements and is qualified SQP which means she can prescribe and dispense certain categories of drugs.

Sam lives in Burgess Hill with her husband and daughter and they are a very active family. They love to run and work out and enjoy extreme sport days. Sam's daughter is a javelin thrower for Sussex so they spend a lot of time travelling to athletic meets around the country.

She have a little patterdale terrier called Ned who comes to work with her, is spoilt rotten and usually hangs out with Lulu the chocolate Labrador in the office.


Avril (Receptionist & Nursing Assistant)

Avril and her family have lived in Burgess Hill for twenty six years and for the last fifteen, she has worked as a Veterinary Receptionist, joining Cootes in May 2013. As an animal lover she has a number of pets, two long haired cats - Tumble and Treacle a short haired rescue cat called Whizzy, and a rescued house Rabbit called Daisy. She also has a pond with a variety of fish including five Koi.

Interests include riding, reading, gardening, patchwork and she is a qualified Padi Scuba Diver.


Megan (Receptionist & Nursing Assistant)

Megan has always lived in Sussex, on farms and small holdings with several different animals. She has always been interested in animal health & welfare and has previously rescued several horses

She is heavily involved in The Autism Life Dog Charity, helping to train and look after the Labradors ready for their forever homes.

Megan currently has 2 horses,Tilly & Archie, and loves to compete them locally in her free time as well as teaching riding lessons and dog sitting.

Her family have 2 horses, 5 dogs, 2 ferrets and 2 cats at home so life is never dull!

Emily (Veterinary Nurse)


Lucia (Receptionist and Nursing Assistant)
Lucia has recently joined the team at Cootes in August 2016 after leaving a fifteen years long career with the airlines, as working with animals has always been her dream.

Growing up she had numerous cats, dogs and birds as pets.

Today, at home, Lucia has got two young daughters, a hubby and a mad lurcher called Dasher who keeps Lucia busy walking around our lovely countryside on her days off.

Alicia (Student Veterinary Nurse)

Nicky (Vet)
Nicky qualified in 2009 and works as a regular locum for us. She grew up in Sussex and has worked in several small animal practices in the area. 

Nicky has a springer spaniel called Sam who keeps her busy with long walks in the countryside out of work.

She also loves travelling, cooking and eating!
